Thankful
There is beauty in the sound of rain on the wisteria leaves outside my window. The pat, pat, pat and slide of heavy rain announcing its arrival after the dry. What a beautiful percussion section we have right outside.
The tapping of the conductors baton sounded as the skylight responded to the first drops, closing with its own particular sound as it heralded the rain. Then came the rhythmic drumming on the roof. Different percussion sections playing together – the sounds on leaves, the gentle gurgling down the drainpipe. It is a peaceful musical score in this setting.
This is not scary rain that threatens to flood or affect homes and livelihoods. This is refreshing, soaking, nurturing rain that feeds, cleanses, restores. This rain fills water tanks, waters crops, grows grass. This rain is a sigh “Ah this is just what we needed. Thank you.”
I love the sound, I love the way a rainy day shifts the atmosphere and changes what was planned. Today may become the day for setting up the Christmas Tree with accompanying Christmas carols. What a joy! The small pleasures in life so often come wrapped up in seasons and in change.
We all have favourite pastimes, things we love to do on a rainy day. I wonder what yours is?
