When the Morning Speaks
It was still dark as I rose to start the day. Kettle on, pets fed, I was drawn to begin this day outdoors in the hot tub. A time to reflect, to ponder, to pray.
It has been a while since I have made the most of the dawning of a new day. Slipping into the hot water, just as the first brushstrokes of light started to appear in the sky, without a sound yet to break the serenity. There is something awesome about being under an expansive sky, as it stirs and wakes us up to what is in store today.
Captivated by the deepening brushstrokes of charcoal and orange, now forming recognisable shapes. These magnificent colours being released from the artist’s brush, across the sky. Palest of blues in the background, soft fluffy edges of mid grey overlaid. Then those outlines of brilliant orange, forming what looks like, magnificent eagles wings across the sky. To my right, the wing is detailed. The very slightly curved, strong, smooth length of the wing, forming a raised tip at the end, and feathers revealed in perfect formation for flight, in hues of light grey, through to charcoal defining the details of the wing.
The left wing appears more curved and not as defined. It must be very windy up in the high altitudes as the underside of the wing has hairline wisps blurring the shape of the feathers. All trimmed in brilliant orange.
While sitting, breathing and drinking it all in, this wonderful splendour of burnished oranges, smudges of greys, palest of blues, the bird song begins. At first the delightful chatter. The neighbourhood of birdlife offering their good morning chorus to each other. Then a pregnant pause and individual songs begin. The song thrushes serenading the one in the pool. Celebrating the every changing canvas of colour with me.
What a way to start the day! What beauty lies before us each and every day. Captivating beauty in sky, in trees, in wildlife, in sea, sand, or even the smallest flower poking its head out of a crack in the pavement, all heralds the wonder that is all around us to drink in, to breathe in, to delight in.
Regardless of what any of us might be going through, experiencing now, in the moment, may we take a pause in our day to breathe in something beautiful.
