The Rhythm of Life is a powerful thing

In the hum of life whether in the city or countryside there is an energy that flows. At times undetected, but there, none the less. A vibrancy of life, in abundance. More apparent when we are at rest, nature’s hum of insects, birds and beasts bring their special frequency to be enjoyed and embraced. However, the hum that is the energy of people, while quite different, is still wonderful. Isn’t it just incredible that we are each made so differently, with our own gifts, talents, interests, thoughts and expression and yet we can hum in harmony, in unity, side by side and appreciate one another because of our differences, rather than in spite of them? Well, that is the perfect plan and while life is not always perfect, it is this life I love to be a part of.

On that note, two weeks into retirement and it is looking great so far. To be real I have been preparing for this for some time. From five days a week, to four, to three, and finally for the last three years, two days a week. How could it be so different now? Yet it is. To plan without the consideration of workdays or applying for leave, which I was always reluctant to do too often, feels wonderfully freeing. When you only work two days a week you tend to feel a professional responsibility to commit to those two days unless it is due to annual leave, sick leave or a major family event. Now, the flexibility to be available for a phone call when needed, or to connect with others, is a gift.

The fun of planning a long overdue road trip to the far north, to stay with friends and show my husband around as he has never been past Auckland, is such a delight. No preparing the replacement covering me while on leave.

Chuckling to myself yesterday, Darby and Joan off on our fortnightly shopping expedition on Pensioner Tuesday. The now weekly excursion to the supermarket, the pet shop for the animal food and other errands in Masterton. Did I ever see that coming?

Honestly, I am so excited about how I plan to map out my days to include all the things I want to achieve in the years ahead. Illustrating my children’s books, painting and drawing, playing the guitar, writing my blog, assisting clients as a Property Coach, Freedom and Life and facilitating Sozo sessions for people who book in our area. That doesn’t include family and friends, book club, tai chi, cycling and walking and socialising. How did I ever fit work in, I am thinking?

Truly, it is such a blessing to be part of this wonderful hum, this vibrancy called life. To relish each and every day, knowing we do not know what the future holds. Loved ones may move away; a diagnosis may change the landscape of what we know to be life.

Thank you for each and every day. It is truly a blessing.
